Proyecto y análisis de traducción: When the side nigga catch feelings

Abstract

El presente Trabajo de Fin de Grado consiste en la traducción al español y el análisis traductológico de un fragmento de la novela When the Side Nigga Catch Feelings, de Jessica N. Watkins. La obra se caracteriza por un uso abundante del argot, el slang y la oralidad fingida, así como por la presencia de rasgos propios del African American Vernacular English (AAVE), lo que plantea numerosos retos de traducción relacionados con la transferencia de elementos culturales, identitarios y pragmáticos. El estudio se apoya en un marco teórico compuesto por las aportaciones de Hurtado Albir (2001) sobre las técnicas de traducción, Vinay y Darbelnet (2008) sobre los procedimientos traductológicos, Venuti (2008) sobre domesticación y extranjerización, Brumme (2008) sobre la oralidad fingida y Green (2002) sobre la dimensión sociolingüística del AAVE. A partir de estas perspectivas, se analizan las principales dificultades encontradas durante el proceso de traducción y las estrategias empleadas para resolverlas.

This Final Degree Project contains of the translation into Spanish and the posterior translation studies analysis of an excerpt from the novel *When the Side Nigga Catch Feelings* by Jessica N. Watkins. The work is characterised by an abundant use of argot, slang and feigned orality, as well as the presence of features typical of African American Vernacular English (AAVE), which poses numerous translation challenges related to the transfer of cultural, identity-related and pragmatic elements. The study is based on a theoretical framework comprising the contributions of Hurtado Albir (2001) on translation techniques, Vinay and Darbelnet (2008) on translation procedures, Venuti (2008) on domestication and foreignisation, Brumme (2008) on feigned orality, and Green (2002) on the sociolinguistic dimension of AAVE. Drawing on these perspectives, the study analyses the main difficulties encountered during the translation process and the strategies employed to resolve them.
