Situación financiera del fútbol profesional español bajo la regulación de la UEFA: análisis y evolución en el periodo 2009-2024 - Vallez Rando, Celia

Abstract

El estudio analiza el desempeño financiero de los clubes profesionales de fútbol españoles durante el periodo 2009-2024 y su adaptación a la regulación de la UEFA. La investigación clasifica a los equipos en distintos grupos, como los competidores europeos y aquellos que luchan por evitar el descenso, para examinar cómo clubes con diferentes estructuras afrontaron los cambios normativos a nivel nacional e internacional. Asimismo, se realiza un análisis entre enfoques regulatorios, contrastando el modelo español de control preventivo con el sistema más reactivo de la Premier League inglesa. Se evalúan indicadores clave como la rentabilidad, la solvencia y el endeudamiento a lo largo de tres etapas: el periodo previo a la regulación, la introducción del Financial Fair Play y la transición hacia las Financial Sustainability Regulations. Los resultados muestran que los límites más estrictos al gasto y otras medidas económicas, como la centralización de los derechos televisivos, han contribuido a mejorar la estabilidad financiera. No obstante, persisten desigualdades estructurales entre clubes grandes y pequeños que son especialmente evidentes ante shocks económicos externos. En conjunto, se observa una tendencia hacia una mayor convergencia y disciplina financiera en el sector.

This paper analyzes the financial performance of Spanish professional football clubs during the period 2009-2024, focusing on their adaptation to UEFA regulations. The research classifies teams into different groups, such as the European competitors and those fighting to avoid relegation, in order to examine how clubs with different structures faced regulatory changes at the national and international levels. An analysis of regulatory approaches is also conducted, contrasting the Spanish model of preventive control with the more reactive system of the English Premier League. Key indicators such as profitability, solvency, and debt are evaluated across three stages: the pre-regulation period, the introduction of Financial Fair Play, and the transition to the Financial Sustainability Regulations. The results show that stricter spending limits and other economic measures, such as the centralization of television rights, have contributed to improved financial stability. However, structural inequalities between large and small clubs persist, which are especially evident in the face of external economic shocks. Overall, there is a trend towards greater convergence and financial discipline in the sector.
