Abstract

El artículo examina la figura de Antonio de Valbuena en el contexto de la generación del 98, subrayando su singularidad estilística e ideológica dentro de la cronología noventayochista. Valbuena se destacó como crítico mordaz, periodista polémico y escritor satírico, cuya obra reflejó tanto el apego a las raíces castellanas como la crítica feroz a las instituciones culturales y políticas de su tiempo. A través del análisis de su producción literaria y periodística, se evidencia su ambigua posición: a la vez defensor de la tradición y renovador del discurso crítico. El estudio concluye que Valbuena representa una voz excéntrica y heterodoxa, esencial para comprender la pluralidad estética e ideológica del fin de siglo.

The article analyzes the figure of Antonio de Valbuena within the context of the Generation of ’98, emphasizing his stylistic and ideological uniqueness in the fin-de-siècle timeline. Valbuena stood out as a sharp critic, polemical journalist, and satirical writer, whose work reflected both a strong attachment to Castilian traditions and a fierce critique of the cultural and political institutions of his time. Through the study of his literary and journalistic output, the article reveals his ambiguous stance as both a defender of tradition and a renovator of critical discourse. It concludes that Valbuena embodies an eccentric and heterodox voice essential to understanding the aesthetic and ideological plurality of the late 19th century.
