Contemplar/Imaginar. Un ejercicio teológico-espiritual ignaciano

Abstract

La vista imaginativa es un ejercicio pneumatólogico. Al margen de la crítica textual que se pueda realizar a la Autobiografía, la voz de Ignacio y la escritura de Gonçalves da Câmara tejen su experiencia de Dios cuyo hilo conductor es la apertura de los ojos desde la lectura de la Vita Christi hasta las confirmaciones recibidas en las visitaciones o representaciones trinitarias y de Cristo hacia el final del relato. Así, el ojo interior se muestra como un proceso que se traduce en la mistagogía de los Ejercicios a través de diferentes variantes: imaginando, mirar, ver, viendo, vista. Desde esta perspectiva, tres componentes teológicos y espirituales caracterizan el ojo de la imaginación y de la contemplación ignacianas: revestirse, ver y/o conocer y crear.

The imaginative gaze is a pneumatological exercise. Beyond the textual criticism that may be applied to the Autobiography, the voice of Ignatius and the writing of Gonçalves da Câmara weave together his experience of God, whose guiding thread is the opening of the eyes—from the reading of the Vita Christi to the confirmations received in the visitations or Trinitarian and Christic representations toward the end of the narrative. In this way, the inner eye appears as a process that unfolds into the mystagogy of the Exercises through different variations: imagining, looking, seeing, beholding, vision. From this perspective, three theological and spiritual components characterize the eye of Ignatian imagination and contemplation: to be clothed, to see and/or to know, and to create.
