<dim:field element="description" qualifier="abstract" language="en-GB" mdschema="dc">The aim of this article is to describe the use of visual methodologies in fieldwork.
Through the production of fanzines it is explored the social representations of the
migration process experienced by migrant children who have entered through
unauthorized crossings and are living in shelters on the northern border of Chile.
The methodology consisted of a fanzine workshop with the participation of 17 for-
eign children (6 to 11 years old) and 3 educators in 2 shelters (Lobito and
Colchane). It was concluded that the fanzine was relevant to learn about represen-
tations of the migration process through stories, drawings with a childlike stroke,
stereotypical or symbolic images (stickers) that embody characters and explore
their rights and the challenges of the journey. Educators narrate the affective
bond in contexts of crisis. Children’s experience of migration is characterized by a
high level of vulnerability, which must be considered when drawing up public mi-
gration policies</dim:field>
