Apego adulto, variables sociodemográficas y sintomatología ansiosa depresiva en cuidadores de familiares de pacientes oncológicos

Abstract

Los cuidadores familiares de pacientes oncológicos presentan malestar psicológico en términos de ansiedad y depresión. Esto parece acentuarse si el familiar es mujer, si es cónyuge, si se enfrenta a la enfermedad en situación de gravedad y si el paciente se encuentra en pleno tratamiento. Investigaciones recientes han identificado también diferencias en el ajuste psicológico al estrés según el tipo de apego adulto en esta población. El objetivo de este estudio fue explorar la presencia de síntomas de ansiedad y depresión en un grupo de 30 cuidadores familiares de pacientes oncológicos de nacionalidad española, así como la relación entre esta sintomatología, el tipo de apego adulto y otras variables de carácter sociodemográfico como la edad, el sexo, el parentesco con el familiar y el estadío de la enfermedad. Para ello, se utilizó un cuestionario sociodemográfico, el Cuestionario de Apego Adulto (CAA) y la Escala de Ansiedad y Depresión Hospitalaria (HAD). La muestra presentó una puntuación media en el HAD correspondiente a malestar clínicamente significativo (18,08), un caso probable de ansiedad (10,02) pero no de depresión a pesar de mostrar un valor muy próximo (7,87). Se encontraron diferencias significativas en ansiedad y depresión según el tipo de apego adulto, en depresión según el sexo, y en ansiedad según el parentesco. No se encontraron diferencias significativas en ansiedad y depresión según la edad y el estadío de la enfermedad. El estadístico D de Cohen mostró en ocasiones una potencia elevada, de modo que se propone la realización de futuras investigaciones con un tamaño muestral mayor, posibilitando obtener resultados más significativos. Finalmente, se concluyó la pertinencia de ofrecer apoyo psicológico a los cuidadores familiares de pacientes oncológicos, así como continuar en el estudio de sus condiciones a fin de mejorarlas.

The family caregivers of the cancer patients show psychological concerning anxiety and depression terms. This is emphasized in the following circumstances, if the family member is a woman, if it is a spouse, if they face a serious disease and if the patient is in active treatment. Recent researches have also identified differences in the psychological adjustment to the stress, depending on the bond to the population. The objective of this study was not only to explore the presence of symptoms of anxiety and depression in groups made up of 30 family caregivers of cancer patients with the Spanish nationality, but also the relationship between the symptomatology, the type of adult bond and other socio-demographic variables such as the age, gender, family relationship and the stage of the disease.To that end it was used a socio-demographic questionnaire, the Adult Attachment (or bonding) Questionnaire (AAQ) and the Hospitality Anxiety and Depression scale (HAD). The sample showed an average score in the HAD corresponding to the significant clinical discomfort (18, 08), a probable anxiety case (10, 02) but not of depression despite of showing close values to it (7, 87). There were found significantly differences on anxiety and depression depending on the type of adult attachment, in depression depending on the gender, and regarding anxiety depending on the family relation. There were no important differences in anxiety and depression concerting the age and the disease stage. Since the statician D. de Cohen showed in several situations high strength (potency), it has been proposed the development of the researches with a larger sample, due to obtaining more significant results. Finally, it was concluded the need of offering psychological support to the family caregivers of the cancer patients, and to continue with the study of its conditions with the aim of improve it.
