La locura: del miedo a la dignidad
Abstract
El miedo a volvernos locos, a perder la cabeza o a enloquecer es una de
las experiencias más aterradoras en la vida. Por eso, hoy se sigue haciendo
necesario reivindicar los modos sagrados que tienen algunas personas para
hacer frente a situaciones y conflictos nada fáciles de tolerar; es decir, la
“locura”. Más aún, resulta apremiante recuperar la dimensión espiritual del ser
humano que sufre problemas serios de salud mental: ni todo lo que ocurre se
agota en lo biológico ni puede reducirse a la vida psicológica o social. Para ello
se proponen tres verbos que, desde la perspectiva de la espiritualidad, permiten
acercarse a este misterio de forma respetuosa y cordial: contemplar, palpar y
consolar. El reconocimiento del otro distinto desde el espíritu permitirá entender,
atender, expresar y cuidar esta dimensión constitutiva del ser humano, que
juega un papel crucial para situar a la locura en un plano de total dignidad Our fear of going crazy or becoming mentally ill is one of the scariest realities in
life. For this reason, it is still necessary today to turn to the sacred methods that
some people support in order to confront situations and conflicts that are not
easy to tolerate: this is what we call “madness”. Moreover, it is urgent to recover
the spiritual dimension of the human being who suffers from serious mental
health conditions, because everything that happens cannot be explained by the
biological field nor can it be reduced to a psychological or sociological problem.
Hence, three keys of spirituality have been proposed to allow us to approach
this mystery in a respectful and cordial way: contemplate, palpate and console.
The recognition of the other distinct from the spirit will allow us to understand,
attend, express and care for this constitutive dimension of the human being,
which plays a crucial role in placing madness on a level of dignity.
