Abstract

Los manuscritos del Mar Muerto son el descubrimiento arqueológico más importante del siglo XX. Esta colección incluye más de ochocientos documentos escritos entre el siglo III a. C. y el año 70 d. C. Entre ellos se encuentran los textos más antiguos de la Biblia hebrea (Antiguo Testamento) y numerosos escritos que describen el ambiente social, político y religioso de Jerusalén durante la época del Segundo Templo y los comienzos del cristianismo.

El hallazgo ocurrió cuando unos pastores beduinos buscaban una cabra extraviada en el desierto y la encontraron dentro de una cueva llena de antiguos rollos escritos en hebreo y griego.
