Abstract

.El texto analiza los dilemas, oportunidades y perspectivas de la Unión Europea ante la creciente rivalidad entre Estados Unidos y China. Expone cómo el multilateralismo se debilita frente a una bipolaridad marcada por el nacionalismo económico estadounidense y la ambición china de consolidarse como potencia global. La UE, situada entre ambas fuerzas, enfrenta el desafío de preservar su autonomía estratégica, proteger su modelo político‑económico y reforzar su capacidad de acción exterior. El capítulo detalla la evolución de las relaciones UE‑China, las tensiones comerciales y políticas con EE. UU. y la fuerte interdependencia entre las dos potencias, cuyos conflictos impactan directamente en Europa. El autor sostiene que la UE solo podrá influir en el nuevo orden global si profundiza su integración, refuerza su unidad interna y actúa como un actor coherente en comercio, seguridad, tecnología y defensa. La respuesta europea determinará su futuro rol en un sistema internacional cada vez más competitivo.

.The text examines the dilemmas, opportunities and future prospects facing the European Union amid the intensifying rivalry between the United States and China. It explains how the global multilateral order is weakening as geopolitical dynamics shift toward a latent bipolarity driven by U.S. economic nationalism and China’s ambition to become a dominant global power. Positioned between these forces, the EU must safeguard its strategic autonomy, defend its political‑economic model and strengthen its external capacity to act. The chapter reviews EU‑China relations, growing tensions with the U.S., and the deep interdependence between both powers, whose disputes directly affect Europe. The author argues that the EU can only shape the emerging global order by deepening integration, reinforcing internal unity and acting coherently in trade, security, technology and defence. The European response will ultimately define its role in an increasingly competitive international system.
