<dim:field element="description" qualifier="abstract" language="en-GB" mdschema="dc">This work addresses the one-dimensional Cauchy problem for the doubly degenerate nutrient taxis model, which describes pattern formation in bacterial populations. The global existence of weak solutions is established for initial data satisfying appropriate regularity and integrability conditions. To account for degeneracy caused by non-strictly positive initial data and the challenges arising from the unbounded domain, a family of regularized problems on bounded intervals is considered. Through uniform estimates and the application of the Aubin-Lions lemma, global solutions are constructed by passing to the limit. This study provides a rigorous mathematical framework for understanding aggregation phenomena in bacterial systems.</dim:field>
