Actualidad política de Santo Tomás

Abstract

Al cumplirse los ochocientos años del nacimiento de Santo Tomás de Aquino, el Consejo de Estudios Hispánicos Felipe II organizó durante el año 2025 en Madrid, París y Nápoles tres congresos internacionales, respectivamente sobre la actualidad política, jurídica y moral de su pensamiento. En el presente volumen se recogen las actas del primero, con contribuciones de Juan Fernando Segovia (Mendoza), Brian McCall (Oklahoma), John Rao (Nueva York), Daniel Herrán (La Adrada), Miguel Ayuso (Madrid), Bernard Dumont (París), Julio Alvear (Santiago de Chile), Javier F. Sandoval (Sevilla), Javier Díaz Perfecto (Pamplona), Luis María De Ruschi (Buenos Aires), Ricardo Dip (São Paulo) y Danilo Castellano (Udine). Como de costumbre, se trata de un congreso que sigue una ratio perfectamente determinada, según los cauces de un proyecto de investigación al que responden los distintos textos de modo articulado y orgánico. Los temas son los centrales de la política: bien común, realeza, comunidad, autoridad, constitución, régimen, formas de gobierno, legitimidad, obediencia, Iglesia y comunidad política, etc. Destaca la confrontación entre la visión clásica y la moderna, así como la primera es perenne mientras la segunda aboca a aporías que no tienen solución ni siquiera en sus variantes posmodernas, al tiempo que se resalta cómo la perennidad de lo clásico

On the occasion of the eight hundredth anniversary of the birth of Saint Thomas Aquinas, the Council of Hispanic Studies Felipe II organized three international conferences in 2025 in Madrid, Paris, and Naples, respectively devoted to the political, juridical, and moral relevance of his thought. This volume brings together the proceedings of the first of these conferences, with contributions by Juan Fernando Segovia (Mendoza), Brian McCall (Oklahoma), John Rao (New York), Daniel Herrán (La Adrada), Miguel Ayuso (Madrid), Bernard Dumont (Paris), Julio Alvear (Santiago de Chile), Javier F. Sandoval (Seville), Javier Díaz Perfecto (Pamplona), Luis María De Ruschi (Buenos Aires), Ricardo Dip (São Paulo), and Danilo Castellano (Udine). As usual, this is a conference that follows a perfectly determined rationale, in accordance with the lines of a research project to which the various texts respond in an articulated and organic manner. The topics addressed are the central ones of politics: the common good, kingship, community, authority, constitution, regime, forms of government, legitimacy, obedience, the Church and the political community, and so forth. The contrast between the classical and modern visions stands out, as does the fact that the former is perennial, whereas the latter leads to aporias that have no solution, not even in its postmodern variants, while also highlighting the perennial character of the classical.
