<dim:field element="description" qualifier="abstract" language="es_ES" mdschema="dc">Introducción:
<dim:field element="description" qualifier="abstract" language="es_ES" mdschema="dc">Introduction:
Childbirth is a complex physiological process that involves physical, emotional, and
sociocultural aspects. The use of visual biofeedback, such as the use of a mirror during
childbirth, can help the woman to have a greater sense of control during the process, favouring
pushing and general satisfaction of the process.
Objective:
To understand how parturient perceive the experience of using a mirror during the expulsive
phase of labour.
Methodology:
A qualitative study with a phenomenological approach is proposed. This design will allow for
an in-depth exploration of the experiences and meanings attributed to mirror use, analysing
how it influences women's sense of control and satisfaction during the expulsion process. Data
collection will be conducted through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and focus
groups, using purposive sampling to achieve data saturation.
Implications for nursing practice:
The use of a low-cost tool such as a mirror at such a crucial moment as childbirth can promote
more humane and patient-centred care. By enhancing the perception of control and improving
the coordination of pushing, this intervention not only contributes to the emotional well-being
of the parturient but can also optimize the obstetric environment and reduce the need for
unnecessary medical interventions, thus strengthening the role of nursing in promoting
evidence-based, woman-centred care.</dim:field>
