<dim:field element="description" qualifier="abstract" language="en-GB" mdschema="dc">Background: The first inquisitorial trials targeted Muslims and Jews, but later focused on women caregivers associated with witchcraft and sorcery due to their empirical healing knowledge. Objective: to analyse the care provided by healers accused by the Inquisition between the 15th and 18th centuries and to justify the historical importance of nursing within community care diversity. Methodology: a scoping review was conducted following the Dialectical Structural Model of Care, using databases, bibliographic resources and historical archives. Results: the concepts of healer, witch and sorceress evolved throughout the study period, reflecting the social structure of the time. These women provided physical, psychological and sexual care using remedies, prayers and amulets. Conclusion: healers were predecessors of modern nursing and acted as health agents despite social and inquisitorial persecution.</dim:field>
