Pese a la notable capacidad de la industria para crear una narrativa favorable a sus intereses a través de las relaciones públicas, el estudio de esta influencia sigue siendo limitado debido al carácter opaco de buena parte de la comunicación persuasiva corporativa. En el caso del complejo industrial animal —el conjunto de industrias que hacen negocio a partir del uso de animales—, el análisis del discurso promovido por estas estrategias comunicativas ha sido prácticamente inexistente hasta hace bien poco. Este libro viene a cubrir ese vacío para el contexto español, ofreciendo un análisis detallado de los discursos de los principales grupos de interés de tres de las industrias más relevantes dentro del complejo industrial animal: las de la alimentación, experimentación y entretenimiento. En esta introducción presentamos el marco general de la investigación que sustenta este volumen, así como su estructura y contenidos. As we show in this book, this covert discursive influence of the industry helps to create a social perception of normality and acceptance, making it harder for the public to question the structural violence behind these practices and nullifying or attenuating people’s natural ethical-compassionate response—that is, blocking the ability to recognize animal suffering as something morally problematic, as well as the willingness to react against it. Despite the industry’s notable capacity to build a narrative favorable to its interests through public relations, the study of this influence remains limited due to the opaque nature of much corporate persuasive communication. In the case of the animal industrial complex—the set of industries that profit from the use of animals—the analysis of the discourse promoted by these communication strategies has been practically nonexistent until very recently. This book seeks to fill that gap in the Spanish context by offering a detailed analysis of the discourses of the main stakeholders in three of the most relevant industries within the animal industrial complex: food, experimentation, and entertainment.
