Abstract

El capítulo analiza la espiritualidad del seguimiento y el discipulado en el Evangelio de San Marcos. Parte de la estructura cristológica del relato, en la que la identidad de Jesús se comprende plenamente a la luz de la cruz y la resurrección. El autor recorre los principales episodios marcanos relacionados con los discípulos: la llamada inicial en Galilea, la constitución de los Doce, las travesías del lago, las multiplicaciones de los panes, el camino hacia Jerusalén y los relatos de la pasión. Se subraya la incomprensión progresiva de los discípulos, pero también la gratuidad de la llamada de Jesús y la posibilidad de rehabilitación tras el fracaso. El capítulo concluye que el seguimiento en Marcos es gracia, implica servicio, entrega y cruz, y se ilumina mediante personajes secundarios que actúan como modelos narrativos.

This chapter examines the spirituality of following and discipleship in the Gospel of Mark. It begins with the Christological structure of the narrative, where Jesus’ identity is fully understood through the cross and resurrection. The author reviews the main Markan episodes involving the disciples: the initial call in Galilee, the appointment of the Twelve, the lake crossings, the feeding narratives, the journey to Jerusalem, and the passion account. The chapter highlights the disciples’ growing misunderstanding, while also emphasizing the gratuitous nature of Jesus’ call and the possibility of restoration after failure. It concludes that discipleship in Mark is fundamentally grace; it entails service, self-giving, and the cross. Secondary characters such as Bartimaeus, the widow, the woman of Bethany, and Simon of Cyrene function as narrative models that complement the role of the Twelve.
