Abstract

El artículo analiza las referencias a la prostitución en la Biblia, distinguiendo entre el Antiguo y el Nuevo Testamento. Examina la terminología hebrea relacionada con la prostitución, la actitud de la sociedad israelita y la legislación bíblica sobre la moral sexual. Asimismo, estudia el fenómeno de la denominada prostitución ritual y su relación con los templos y prácticas religiosas de Israel. En el Nuevo Testamento se aborda la enseñanza de Jesús y de san Pablo sobre la sexualidad y la prostitución, así como la interpretación de figuras femeninas tradicionalmente asociadas a este ámbito, como María Magdalena, Tamar y Rahab. El autor concluye relacionando la reflexión bíblica con la realidad contemporánea de la prostitución y la trata de personas, destacando la dignidad humana y la necesidad de liberación de quienes sufren explotación.

The article examines references to prostitution in the Bible, distinguishing between the Old and New Testaments. It analyzes the Hebrew terminology associated with prostitution, the attitude of Israelite society, and biblical legislation regarding sexual morality. It also studies the phenomenon of so-called ritual prostitution and its relationship with temples and religious practices in Israel. In the New Testament, the author discusses the teachings of Jesus and Saint Paul concerning sexuality and prostitution, as well as the interpretation of female figures traditionally linked to this subject, such as Mary Magdalene, Tamar, and Rahab. The article concludes by connecting biblical reflection with the contemporary reality of prostitution and human trafficking, emphasizing human dignity and the need to liberate those who suffer exploitation.
