La mujer sirofenicia en la interpretación patrística

Abstract

La perícopa de la mujer sirofenicia o cananea (Mc 7,24-30 y Mt 15,21-28) ha despertado un creciente interés en los estudios bíblicos contemporáneos. El artículo analiza la interpretación patrística de este episodio desde Tertuliano hasta Juan Damasceno, incluyendo los primeros comentarios latinos al Evangelio de Marcos. El autor estudia cómo los Padres de la Iglesia comprendieron el encuentro entre Jesús y la mujer sirofenicia desde diversas perspectivas: histórico-salvífica, cristológica, paradigmática y alegórica. Asimismo, examina cuestiones como la misión a los gentiles, la fe y humildad de la mujer, el simbolismo del pan y las migas, y la tensión entre judaísmo y paganismo. El estudio muestra la riqueza y pluralidad de la exégesis cristiana antigua y su relevancia para la interpretación bíblica contemporánea.

Increasing interest has recently been devoted to the pericope of the Syrophoenician or Canaanite woman (Mk 7:24–30 and Mt 15:21–28) in biblical studies. This article examines the patristic interpretation of the text from Tertullian to John of Damascus, including the earliest Latin commentaries on the Gospel of Mark. The author analyzes how the Church Fathers interpreted the encounter between Jesus and the Syrophoenician woman from different perspectives: salvation-historical, Christological, paradigmatic, and allegorical. The study also addresses themes such as the mission to the Gentiles, the woman’s faith and humility, the symbolism of the bread and crumbs, and the relationship between Judaism and paganism. The article highlights the richness and diversity of early Christian exegesis and its significance for contemporary biblical interpretation.
