Realismo clásico: Ética, fuerza y poder

Abstract

El capítulo examina el realismo clásico como teoría de las relaciones internacionales, destacando su vigencia y complejidad frente a interpretaciones tradicionales que lo han reducido a una visión centrada exclusivamente en el poder. La autora revisa la literatura reciente que ha reinterpretado a los principales realistas clásicos y analiza los elementos comunes de estas nuevas lecturas. El texto aborda los mitos asociados al realismo clásico, su crítica al positivismo y al cientifismo, y la relación entre poder, ética, fuerza y derecho. Asimismo, muestra que el realismo clásico no debe entenderse como una teoría simple o moralmente indiferente, sino como una tradición intelectual rica, marcada por tensiones entre prudencia política, límites normativos y análisis del conflicto internacional.

The chapter examines classical realism as a theory of international relations, emphasizing its continuing relevance and complexity against traditional interpretations that have reduced it to a perspective focused exclusively on power. The author reviews recent scholarship that has reinterpreted the main classical realist thinkers and analyzes the common elements of these new readings. The text addresses the myths surrounding classical realism, its critique of positivism and scientism, and the relationship between power, ethics, force, and law. It also shows that classical realism should not be understood as a simple or morally indifferent theory, but rather as a rich intellectual tradition shaped by tensions between political prudence, normative limits, and the analysis of international conflict.
