Climatización de un aeropuerto en Castellón
Abstract
tipos fundamentales, fancoils o climatizadores.
Introduction
The objective of this project is the design of the air conditioning installation of an airport
located in Castellón, in line with with legal and technical requirements.
The airport has five floors, three of them are habitable, acclimatisation being necessary. The
other two are the basement and the roof, they do not need to be acclimatised, and will be used
to allocate general equipment like boilers or general air conditioners. The total surface area is
17.745m2.
The air conditioning installation is designed for winter and summer conditions. It will be
necessary to calculate summer and winter loads taking heat transfer from walls, heat transfer
from windows, radiation, ventilation or occupation into account. With these results the
equipment, and duct and piping networks will be measured and defined. There will be two
main circuits; a primary circuit that will pre-process the air and water; and a secondary one
that will distribute these fluids in the different rooms.
Finally, it is important to differentiate between two main conditioning systems: i) If the
power that has to be counteracted is less than 15KW, fancoils will be designed; these are four
pipes units that require water and air. ii) If the power that has to be counteracted is more than
15KW, conditioners will be designed; these units require the air totally processed and they
will use diffusers to distribute the air in the rooms uniformly.
Methodology
The project is divided in four main parts: report, layouts, bid specifications and budget. In the
first one, all the information related to the equipment’s design is included; explaining the
calculations done and the results obtained. Then, there are seven layouts that show the system
of pipes and ducts; the general implementation of the system and the control system. The
technical and legal clauses are gathered in the bid specifications. Finally, an overall budget is
given.
The first step in the design of the air conditioning installation is the dividing of the building
in the different areas that need to be acclimatized; differentiating between cafeterias, offices,
shops or open spaces. In this airport there are sixty offices, thirty-two shops, two cafeterias,
boarding areas, luggage area, police department and some big open spaces. Moreover, there
are sixteen toilets that only require ventilation.
Secondly, it will be necessary to calculate the summer and winter loads that will be
counteracted, which depend on the external conditions during the season in question. During
the summer, the highest temperatures are found in August, 29ºC with a relative humidity of
60%. During the winter, the lowest temperatures are found in January, 7ºC for the external
temperature and 9ºC for the ground temperature. The internal conditions required according
to comfort standards are: 21ºC with a 50% relative humidity during the winter; and 25ºC with
a 50% relative humidity during the summer.
Once the loads are known, the systems that should be installed can be defined. There are two
different main systems: fancoils and conditioners. Depending on the working conditions of
each system, different duct and pipe-networks will be defined. This supply networks will
essentially be composed of cool and hot water circuits, duct circuits, pumps, fans, diffusers
and grilles.
Finally, the layouts are designed, establishing the path that the different circuits of water and
air must follow, equipment rooms, and the allocation of terminal units. To conclude this
project, the initial budget of the installation will be calculated.
Results and Conclusions
The total load that is to be counteracted during the summer is 2,727 KW and 469KW during
the winter. As there is an extensive amount of different areas, the results for each room are
not included in this section. To counteract these loads, different fancoils and conditioners will
be designed. As general equipment, two boilers and four cooling machines have been
