Mi hermano tiene esquizofrenia

Abstract

El trabajo que aquí presentamos se enmarca dentro del proyecto de investigación realizado durante el periodo 2009-2012. El primer paso, puesto que carecíamos prácticamente de información al respecto, fue crear un grupo de reflexión de hermanos de personas con esquizofrenia (Octubre Diciembre de 2009) para que nos contaran de primera mano su experiencia personal y así poder identificar algunas de las claves que nos permitieran acercarnos al tema con un mínimo de rigor y conocimiento. Gracias a los aspectos allí tratados y a las vivencias que de forma generosa y profundamente honesta compartieron con nosotros los hermanos que formaban aquel grupo, diseñamos un cuestionario que hemos pasado a nivel nacional y al que han contestado 254 hermanos de personas con esquizofrenia u otra enfermedad mental grave, de trece comunidades autónomas. Otra de las consecuencias que trajo aquel grupo de reflexión fue que puso de manifiesto las graves dificultades a las que han de enfrentarse estas personas, así como la grandeza de la que algunos de ellos hacen gala a la hora de tener que afrontarlas y superarlas. Por esta razón, nos vimos moralmente obligados a no ser meros espectadores y tratar de ayudar, en la medida de nuestras posibilidades, a otros hermanos que pudiera estar pasando por situaciones parecidas. Así pues, durante el curso 2010-2011 pusimos en marcha un grupo de intervención con hermanos de personas con esquizofrenia u otra enfermedad mental grave. Y, precisamente, es de lo aprendido junto a ellos sobre lo que versa el presente trabajo.

The work presented here is part of the research project carried out during the 2009-2012 period. The first step, since we had virtually no information about it, was to create a reflection group of people with schizophrenia (October - December 2009) to tell us first hand their personal experience and to identify some of the keys That allowed us to approach the subject with a minimum of rigor and knowledge. Thanks to the aspects discussed there and to the experiences that generously and deeply honestly shared with us the brothers that formed that group, we designed a questionnaire that we have passed at the national level and to which 254 brothers of people with schizophrenia or other mental illness have answered Thirteen autonomous communities. Another consequence of this group of reflections was that it revealed the serious difficulties faced by these people, as well as the greatness that some of them show when it comes to confronting and overcoming them. For this reason, we were morally obliged not to be mere spectators and try to help, to the extent of our possibilities, other brothers who might be going through similar situations. Thus, during the 2010-2011 academic year we started an intervention group with siblings of people with schizophrenia or other serious mental illness. And, precisely, it is from the learned with them about what the present work is about.
