This project is included in the optimization of methods of obtaining clean energy already existing. Specifically, optimization of offshore wind generation technology is one of the main R&D fields. According to that, this project analyzes the different loads affecting offshore wind turbines. These acting loads are classified into ultimate loads (studied by ultimate load analysis) and fatigue loads (analyzed with fatigue calculation methods). Offshore wind turbines are subject to a series of ultimate loads and fatigue that significantly influence their operation and life duration. It is currently a broad field of study, in which new innovative techniques are being developed. The tower is the element on which most of the weight of the structure and effects of the sea and wind loads affect. Therefore, the main objective of the project is to study the loads acting on the tower of an offshore wind turbine, as well as determining its dimensions so that it supports the ultimate loads as fatigue loads during a lifetime of 25 years. The methodology used for the analysis of this research project is a deductive method since hypotheses are obtained from existing theory. Initially, a given offshore wind turbine model with certain dimensions and specifications will be created. For the design of the marine wind turbine model and the study of ultimate loads and fatigue, Bladed software has been used. This version of the software contains some analysis limitations, but it is complete enough for the study carried out. On the other hand, the GL (Germanischer Lloyd) regulation has been followed for the completion of all the simulations and analyses. In terms of data analysis, theory of Structural Analysis and Material Resistance has been used. After reviewing the results, it has been observed that the dimensions of the tower is mainly dominated by ultimate load analysis. Most specifically, the bending moment (Mxy) at the base of the wind turbine tower produces the biggest stresses. As a main result, a pre-determination of the dimensions of the wind turbine tower that supports the ultimate loads and fatigue is obtained. These initial dimensions consider a constant tower cross section with a tubular thickness of 0.55 m, which is remarkably conservative. Due to the level of conservatism, the wind turbine supports fatigue loads with a life span after 25 years of 92.9%. Therefore, a tower structure with variable thickness is finally designed so as to support the different stress generated by the loads at each point of the tower. An optimized design of the tower is achieved and a significant savings in material (dimensions are less conservative than the initial). The optimized tower allows a significant economic savings and, therefore, it is a field of research of remarkable importance. In terms of returns, an analysis of a project of 5 offshore wind turbines has been conducted. The return difference between the base project and the optimized project has been evaluated, and the optimized project has shown an increase in the returns. The capital structure of each project has been considered as 40% debt and 60% equity.en-GB
