Re-Reading Angela Carter's The Snow Child from a post-colonial point of view

Abstract

El relato The Snow Child, de Angela Carter, ha sido analizado desde diferentes corrientes teóricas, principalmente desde los puntos de vista feminista y deconstruccionista. Este trabajo ofrece una nueva relectura del relato desde el punto de vista poscolonial, que muestra como los personajes del relato pueden ser interpretados como representantes de las actitudes occidentales hacia oriente / el Otro, encontrando así similitudes con los encuentros coloniales que denuncian los estudios postcoloniales, que muestran tanto atracción como rechazo.

Angela Carter s Short story The Snow Child has been analyzed from several critical approaches, mainly through feminist and deconstructionist points of view. It is our intention to provide a new focus on the selected short story by re-reading from the point of view of postcolonial studies, showing how the main characters in the story can be interpreted to represent Western attitudes towards the East / Other, finding a similitude with colonial encounters denounced by post-colonial theories, showing both approaches of the West to the East: attraction and rejection.
