Sostenibilidad ambiental: un bien público global

Abstract

En la actualidad el término sostenibilidad se ha convertido en un comodín que utilizan sin rubor las principales multinacionales, el Banco Mundial o la Unión Europea, como si hablasen de lo mismo que plantea el movimiento ecologista. Por ello es importante empezar definiendo qué es la sostenibilidad, entrando en la descripción de varios de sus ejes directores. El libro asocia la sostenibilidad a un bien público global desde la perspectiva de nuestra íntima dependencia del entorno y desde el punto de vista de la necesidad de una gestión colectiva de los elementos comunes limitando la gestión privada. Una vez descritas e interrelacionadas la crisis ambiental, social y económica, se pasa a analizar las causas últimas de la situación actual desde las perspectivas económica y sociológica. Solo partiendo de la raíz de los problemas podremos dar respuestas adecuadas a los mismos. Todo esto nos proporciona las herramientas necesarias para poder analizar el tipo de soluciones a la crisis ambiental que se están ensayando por parte de los distintos estamentos de poder, tanto políticos como económicos.

Nowadays, the term "sustainability" has become a wild card used by the main multinationals, the World Bank or the European Union without blushing, as if they were talking about the same thing that the ecology movement proposes. For this reason, it is important to start by defining what sustainability is, entering into the description of several of its directing axes. The book associates sustainability with a global public good from the perspective of our intimate dependence on the environment and from the point of view of the need for collective management of common elements limiting private management. Once the environmental, social and economic crisis has been described and interrelated, the last causes of the current situation are analyzed from the economic and sociological perspectives. Only starting from the root of the problems can we give adequate answers to them. All this provides us with the necessary tools to be able to analyze the type of solutions to the environmental crisis that are being tested by the different levels of power, both political and economic.
