Background: The great majority of injuries in dance are due to overuse. Dance is based on repetition for improvement, therefore avoiding technique failure is essential to prevent injuries. One of the most performed movements in dance is the pirouette “en dehors”. Hypothesis: The pirouette performance with the dominant limb acting as base of the movement or gestural limb at fast speed of spinning or slow speed of spinning against the non-dominant limb differ in its outcomes in the frontal plane of the hip ROM, area of the ground reaction force and distribution of time between the different phases of the pirouette. Study design and methods: Pilot descriptive laboratory study. ROM and percentage of phase time are obtained with a movement analysis system, ground reaction force is acquired with force platform. 14 dancers were recruited from the disciplines of classical ballet, contemporary dance and Spanish dance, all of them had to be grown-up according to Spanish legislation, have at least 7 years of experience, train at minimum 7 hours per week, have regulated education in one of the three official dance styles in Spain and be healthy. All statistics were performed with IBM SPSS Statistics 20. Results: All the data obtained regarding the percentage of time phase were even regardless of the conditions, phase 1 ≈ 20%, phase 2 ≈ 12%, phase 3 ≈ 10%; phase 4 ≈ 27% y phase 5 ≈ 31%. Adduction values were predominant during the entire cycle, both the base limb and the gestural limb. Much of the data concerning the area of the ground reaction force were lost, but at high speed (M=0,03) the area was half of the one obtained at slow speed (M=0,07). No significant differences highlight from the statistical contrasts, nor between ROM or area of the ground reaction force, facing dominant against non-dominant limb nor facing speeds. Conclusion: Regardless of the speed the percentage of time phase is alike. Adduction is a prevalent movement in the hip during the pirouette both the base and the gestural. No significant differences were obtained to suggest different behaviors between dominant limb and non-dominant limb. A larger study is required to verify or deny these trends.es_ES
