Maturity Mapping and Opportunities’ Roadmap Development within MRO Functions across Babcock International

Abstract

Esta tesis tiene como fin último evaluar la Madurez en la Gestión de Activos de la Entidad Colaboradora del proyecto y, para cumplir con dicho fin, en la presente tesis se ha desarrollado una herramienta que busca cubrir tres objetivos principales: El primer y principal objetivo es permitir a la organización evaluar su nivel de madurez de gestión de activos de forma autónoma bajo tres enfoques diferentes; la Norma ISO 55001: 2014, el marco de la IAM (Institute of Asset Management) y el marco de la TES (Through-life Engineering Services). El segundo objetivo buscado es ofrecer una hoja de ruta que cubra diferentes soluciones tecnológicas que permitan mejorar el nivel de Madurez en la Gestión de Activos de la organización. Finalmente, el tercer objetivo clave se centra en permitir que el patrocinador lleve a cabo un proceso de benchmarking entre diferentes tipos de activos, siendo estos últimos procesos, unidades de negocio, contratos o equipos entre otros. Los comentarios del patrocinador han mostrado que la Solución propuesta cumple con sus objetivos y que ofrece toda la información requerida para abordar los problemas relevantes en su Gestión de Activos. Para asegurar que el proyecto se llevase a cabo con éxito, periódicamente se realizaron visitas a distintas instalaciones de la entidad colaboradora. Gracias a estas visitas, el proyecto se ha controlado y adaptado en su totalidad durante toda la duración de éste.

This thesis aims to assess the sponsor’s asset management maturity, and, for this purpose, this thesis develops a process that pursues and accomplishes three chief objectives: The first, and principal objective, is to enable the organisation to assess their Asset Management Maturity Level under three different approaches; the ISO Standard 55001:2014, the Institute of Asset Management 39 Subjects and the Through-life Engineering Services framework. The second main objective covered is the suggestion of different technological solutions to improve the organisation’s Asset Management Maturity Level. Finally, the third key objectives focus on allowing the sponsor to carry out benchmarking against different type of assets, being processes, business units, contracts, or equipment among others. The feedback from the sponsor shows that the developed Solution complies with its objectives and gives the required information to address the relevant Asset Management issues. To carry out the project successfully, regular visits to different sponsor’s sites took place. Thanks to them, the project was narrowed down, specified and controlled during its whole duration.
