En el vínculo está la libertad (Hacia otro amor mejor)

Abstract

La libertad, decía Cervantes, es uno de los más preciosos dones que Dios ha dado a los hombres. Pero como todo lo valioso tiene sus riesgos y necesita sus cuidados. En nuestra reflexión comenzaremos con unas breves calas literarias, teológicas y sociológicas sobre esa maravillosa faena que es la libertad. Seguidamente volveremos la mirada sobre dos de los ladrones más poderosos de nuestra libertad: los deseos y los miedos. Para terminar apelando a lo que creemos que es una de las tesis centrales del cristianismo, y que está presente en el corazón de la mística sanjuanista: la paradoja de que en el vínculo está la libertad.

Cervantes wrote that freedom is one of the most precious gifts given by God to men and women. Like everything valuable, however, it comes with risks and must be used carefully. In this reflection, we begin with some brief literary, theological and sociological examples concerning the marvelous task which freedom represents. We will then turn to the two most powerful robbers of our freedom: our desires and our fears. Finally, we will make reference to what we consider to be one of the central theses of Christianity, which is at the heart of the mysticism of St. John of the Cross: The paradoxical fact that our freedom is in our bond.
