Objective: The main objective of this study was to analyze the possible relationship between the problematic use of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) and the symptons of anxiety or depression. Similarly, another objective was to analyze the differences between men and women regarding the same variables. Method: The sample was of 305 subjects between the ages of 18 and 34, 58,7% of the participants were women and the remaining 41,3% were men. All of them completed the HADS scale, it measures in two subescales the anxious and depressive symptoms, and the questionnaire MULTICAGE-TIC, it measures in five subescales the problematic use of mobile, Internet, social networks, videogames and messaging. Results: It was not found a positive correlation between the symptons of anxiety and the problematic use of ICT. Nevertheless, this correlation was positive in the case of depression. Women scored higher on levels of both anxiety and depression. Differences were found in relation to the different types of problematic use according to gender. Women scored higher on the subescales of mobile, instant messaging and social networks. Not statistically significant differences were found on the other two subescales (videogames and Internet). Discussion: Although the results of this study are not determinant, both this work and the literature ratify the relationship between this new problem and certain types of psychopathology. It will be necessary to establish future lines of research since, due to the advance of technology this problem may increase. So it will be necessary to establish a clearer basis for the problematic use of ICT.es_ES
