Memoriae mandabam (Amic. I, 1). La excelencia de la memoria en el de Amicitia de Cicerón

Abstract

El presente artículo quiere sacar a la luz las citas que sobre la memoria aparecen en el diálogo de Amicitia de Cicerón. Con ello se amplía el estudio que hasta el momento se ha hecho sobre esta potencia anímica y sus consecuencias en el Arpinate, centradas casi siempre en relación con la oratoria. El análisis pormenorizado de dichas citas desvela que la memoria puede ser considerada como una categoría meta-argumental dinámica en el sistema filosófico de Cicerón y, por ese motivo, aparece como causa de múltiples situaciones de la vida del hombre. Puede afirmarse, así, que la memoria no está lejos del valor de la excelencia.

The present paper wants to bring to light the quotations that on memory appear in the dialog de Amicitia of Cicero. In this way, the studies that have been already done on this potency and its consequences, focused on its relation with Oratory, are extended here. The detailed analysis of those quotations reveals that the memory can be considered a dynamic meta-argumental category in the philosophical system of Cicero and, for this reason, it appears like a cause of multiple situations of the life of human beings. It can be affirmed, thus, that memory is not far from the value of excellence.
