The sacraments are our contact with heaven as we make our pilgrimage on earth.
They are a place of encounter with Christ, in the Spirit. They are thresholds where we celebrate our belonging to heaven. They are epicletic and doxological
actions of the Church by virtue of the common priesthood of its members. They
introduce us to the mystery of the Trinity and guide us towards the Father and his
Kingdom. When detached from the other dimensions of the Church, which are
proclamation or witness (martyria), service (diakonia) and communion (koinonia),
they lose their meaning and become atrophied. In the sacramental organisation
that is the Church, the Eucharist beats like its heart.
