Abstract
Users of patents and application documents, such as governments, inventors, and corporations dedicated to different industrial sectors, are striving to put their heads on innovation. This report analyzes the potential of the data contained in patent applications to identify research trends. This thesis presents a model based on the extraction of patent data and the generation of an unsupervised trend identification algorithm to represent relevant issues related to the generation of new inventions. The Patent Radar model was tested with data extracted from the European Patent and Trademark Office (EPO). Experiments show that the method provides an overview of trend directions and a detailed perspective on current trends.
