Diseño e implantación de sistema de distribuciónde agua para comunidad rural de Zimbabwe

Abstract

El presente trabajo de fin de grado se plantea, en representación de la Fundación Ingenieros ICAI que trabaja desde hace tres años con la ONG Child Future Africa, con el objetivo de desarrollar distintos proyectos de infraestructuras en Kazai, una comunidad rural cercana a Mount Darwin al noroeste de Zimbabue.

En concreto, el proyecto consiste en la captación de agua desde un pozo ya existente, su distribución hasta el sistema de almacenamiento elegido y posteriormente desde este punto, hasta las casas u otras ubicaciones. Con este trabajo, se busca ofrecer una solución a la escasez de agua durante largos períodos de tiempo a lo largo del año con la que convive la población de Kazai, abasteciendo a la comunidad en la que viven familias que no disponen de agua potable. Consiste, por tanto, en un trabajo plenamente solidario, cuyo fin no es únicamente la ayuda humanitaria si no también la formación de las personas que pertenecen a la comunidad para que puedan hacerse cargo del mantenimiento futuro de las instalaciones e incluso tener la capacidad de repetir este proyecto más adelante si las condiciones se lo permitieran.

Se trata de un proyecto que no se queda únicamente en el papel, puesto que a parte del diseño de la solución también se llevarán a cabo otras labores importantes, se deberá obtener la financiación necesaria para poder implementarlo, a través de recaudación de fondos y donaciones y, por último, se viajará a Zimbabue para dirigir y ayudar en la construcción del sistema.

Con el objetivo de cumplir todos los requisitos anteriormente mencionados, se realiza un proyecto sencillo, simple, sostenible y duradero. Es decir, un sistema de fácil construcción, para poder contar con la ayuda de la comunidad y en el que se emplean tanto la maquinaria como los materiales disponibles en Zimbabue.

This final thesis is presented, on behalf of Fundación Ingenieros ICAI, which has been working for the past three years with the NGO Child Future Africa, with the aim of developing different infrastructure projects in Kazai, a rural community near Mount Darwin at Northwest Zimbabwe.

Specifically, the project consists of collecting water from an existing well, distributing it to the chosen storage system and then from this point, to the houses or other locations. With this work, the aim is to offer a solution to the water shortage for long periods of time throughout the year with which the population of Kazai coexists, supplying the community where families without drinking water live. It therefore consists of a fully supportive work, the purpose of which is not only humanitarian aid but also the training of people who belong to the community so that they can take charge of the future maintenance of the facilities and even have the ability to repeat this project later if the conditions allow it.

It is a project that does not remain solely on paper, since apart from the design of the solution other important tasks will also be carried out, the necessary funding will have to be obtained in order to implement it, through fundraising and donations and, finally, travel to Zimbabwe to lead and help in the construction of the system.

In order to fulfill all the requirements mentioned above, a simple, sustainable and long-lasting project is carried out. In other words, an easy-to-build system is designed, in order to have the help of the community, and use both the machinery and materials available in Zimbabwe.
