Consolidación y desarrollo del sector farmaceútico a través de movimientos corporativos

Abstract

El propósito de este trabajo de investigación académica es, en primer lugar, el de revisar la teoría actual sobre las fusiones y adquisiciones para posteriormente describir el mercado farmacéutico y sus principales características. Para conocer el mercado farmacéutico también detallaremos a los líderes del sector, y a través de un seguimiento de sus operaciones de fusiones y adquisiciones, tendremos una idea de la situación actual en la que se encuentra la industria. Exploraremos las operaciones de fusiones y adquisiciones más relevantes del sector desde el punto de vista de los líderes y a nivel industria. Con esto, podremos entender como estos movimientos corporativos están consolidando el mercado y entender las razones detrás del pico en operaciones de este tipo que se ha dado en los años 2011 a 2015.

The purpose of this academic paper is, first, to review the current theories on mergers and acquisitions to further describe the pharmaceutical market and its main characteristics. In order to describe the pharmaceutical industry we will also define the industry leaders, and through the monitoring of their mergers and acquisitions activity understand the current situation the industry faces. We will explore the main mergers and acquisitions operations in the sector by looking at the main operations carried out by the leaders and the largest deals of between 2011 and 2015. With this, we will be able to understand how these corporate movements are consolidating the market and comprehend the reasons behind the recent spike in operations of this type that have taken place between 2011 and 2015.
