dc.description.abstract | Today’s world energetic and environmental situation urgently needs a change. It is necessary to change towards renewable and non-polluting sources of energy. Wind energy is the most used renewable source of energy in the world and where energy’s future is directed. Moreover, there is the opportunity to install this technology in the ocean, where wind’s velocity is larger and there is less visual impact. However, loads stood by wind turbines are also larger. To minimize them, the yaw system is used to rotate the nacelle towards the directions where energy produced is maximum and loads are minimum. The design of an off-shore 5 MW wind turbine’s yaw system located in the coasts of Africa is conducted. The prototype is made with Bladed™ educational version, the right simulations are done to properly estimate the loads that will affect the yaw system and based on these results, the different components will be designed. | en-GB |
