El papel del Estado en Adam Smith. Las relaciones entre la Ley y el mercado.

Abstract

La democracia liberal está sufriendo una crisis ideológica en la actualidad, con ‎resurgimientos populistas de ambos lados del espectro político en numerosos países. La ‎nueva política se caracteriza por coartar las libertades individuales y atacar la propiedad ‎privada justificándose en la seguridad y en un Estado del bienestar deficiente. Por ello, ‎en tiempos como los que corren es necesario reivindicar una de las figuras más ‎importantes del liberalismo y de la libertad individual: Adam Smith. En este trabajo ‎presentaremos las principales obras de Smith y confirmaremos, a pesar de lo que ‎expresan muchos críticos, que estas gozan de interrelación; y además, estudiaremos el ‎papel que según Smith debía tener el estado en la sociedad, demostrando que sí estaba a ‎favor de un gobierno que, con una limitación en sus funciones, ayudase a que los más ‎necesitados tuviesen lo mínimo para poder sobrevivir.‎

The liberal democracy is currently suffering an ideological crisis, with populist parties ‎arising on both sides of the political spectrum in many countries. Nowadays politics are ‎characterized for limiting individual liberties and attacking private property on the ‎grounds of security and a deficient Welfare state. Therefore, now more than ever, it is ‎necessary to vindicate one of the most important representatives of liberalism and ‎individual freedom: Adam Smith. In this paper we will present Smith’s main works and ‎confirm, in spite of what many critics say, that they are interrelated; and we will also ‎study the limited role that the government should have according to Smith, being in ‎favor of a government that would help the needy to have the minimum required to be able ‎to survive.‎
