Relación entre el funcionamiento familiar, la diferenciación del self y la ansiedad en los jóvenes adultos

Abstract

En el presente estudio se examinó la relación entre el funcionamiento familiar, la diferenciación del self y la ansiedad rasgo. Además, se estudiaron las diferencias en diferenciación del self y en ansiedad rasgo en función del sexo. Se comprobó si el funcionamiento familiar predecía el grado de diferenciación del self alcanzado y si el nivel de diferenciación del self mediaba la relación entre el funcionamiento familiar y la ansiedad. En el estudio participaron 185 sujetos de edades comprendidas entre los 18 y 56 años y se utilizaron las escalas Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale-20Esp (FACES – 20Esp), Escala de Diferenciación del Self (EDS) y Cuestionario de Ansiedad Estado-Rasgo (STAI) para medir las variables a estudiar. Los resultados indicaron que existía relación entre el funcionamiento familiar y la diferenciación del self, el funcionamiento familiar y la ansiedad rasgo y la diferenciación del self y la ansiedad rasgo. Además, se encontraron diferencias en función del sexo, tanto en el grado de diferenciación del self y en la posición yo, con una mayor puntuación de los hombres, como en la reactividad emocional y la ansiedad rasgo, con mayor puntuación de las mujeres. También se observó que el funcionamiento familiar predecía el nivel de diferenciación del self. Por último, se comprobó que la relación entre funcionamiento familiar y ansiedad rasgo estaba parcialmente mediada por la diferenciación del self. Se discuten la relevancia de los resultados y sus implicaciones para la práctica clínica.

In the present study, the relationship between family functioning, differentiation of self and trait anxiety was examined. In addition, differences in trait anxiety and differentiation of self according to sex were studied. It was checked whether family functioning predicted the degree of differentiation of self achieved and whether the level of differentiation of the self mediated the relationship between family functioning and trait anxiety. The study involved 185 subjects aged between 18 and 56 years and the scales used were the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale-20Esp (FACES - 20Esp), the Self Differentiation Scale (EDS) and the State- Trait Anxiety Questionnaire (STAI). The results indicated that there was a relationship between family functioning and self differentiation, family functioning and trait anxiety and self differentiation and trait anxiety. In addition, differences were found according to sex in the degree of self differentiation and in the I position, with a higher score for men, as well as in emotional reactivity and trait anxiety, with higher scores for women. It was also observed that family functioning predicted the level of self differentiation. Finally, it was found that the relationship between family functioning and trait anxiety was partially mediated by the differentiation of the self. The relevance of the results and their implications for clinical practice are discussed.
