Abstract
The goal of the following study is to understand the consequences a separation of parents can
have on their children. To do this, the families mood and overall mental and physical atmosphere
was evaluated. The sample was composed by 116 participants (of these 81 were women and 35
men) aged in between 23 and 30 who were applied the following instruments: Socialdemographic
survey, health survey (SF-36) and family mood scale (FES). To analyze these
relations and differences between groups, the statistical tests U de Mann- Whitney, Kruskal
Wallis, Spearman correlation and Chi squared were performed. The results obtained did not show
any significant relationship between the offspring’s of divorced parents and those children who
had an impeccable health status. In the other hand, the results have proven that the higher the
perception of disputes within families, for those with married parents as with those with separated
ones, the health status perception was lowered. Lastly, in regards to the family climate measured
in the FES survey, only differences between the subscales of expression (EX) and action (AC)
where noticed.
