Abstract
Cannabis is the illegal drug with the highest prevalence of consumption in Spain, especially in
the young population. We start from the psychoanalytic framework to define the characteristics
of the addictive dynamics and offer the most frequent explanations in the psychoanalytic
literature. It turns out that addiction is linked to the suffering and the specific needs of each
consumer. The objective of the present study is to evaluate problematic cannabis use and its
relation to life satisfaction in a sample of 150 young subjects (18-35 years old). To know more
about the problematic form of consumption, its characteristics are studied in terms of frequency
and quantity consumed. The differences between men and women with respect problematic use
and the characteristics of their use are also examined. The results indicate that there is no
significant relationship between problematic use and life satisfaction. It is confirmed that men
consume more and more problematically than women. We offer various explanations of a psychosocial
and socio-cultural nature and we conclude with the importance of evaluating the subjective
experience of the consumer.
