Aspectos singulares de la pedagogía de los jesuitas en los orígenes de la universidad católica en España

Abstract

Este artículo recoge la ponencia impartida por el profesor Revuelta el jueves 18 de noviembre de 1999 en Loyola (Guipúzcoa), en el marco las I Jornadas Interu-niversitarias del Profesorado de los Centros de Educación Superior de la Compañía de Jesús en España. La ponencia, inédita en medios impresos, nos presenta los fundamentos y razones que impulsaron a los jesuitas desde finales del siglo XIX a promover y dirigir centros universitarios en España. Desde el principio se procuró lograr una formación universitaria con un estilo y carácter propio. Los jesuitas en-contraron ese estilo propio en los rasgos pedagógicos de la Ratio Studiorum aplica-dos al nivel universitario. Fruto de aquella aplicación fue la formación integral del universitario: una formación de la fe, la inteligencia y el corazón, una armonía de lo profesional (utilitas), lo humano (humanitas y Iustitia) y lo cristiano (Fides)

This article includes the presentation given by Professor Revuelta on Thursday, November 18, 1999 in Loyola (Guipúzcoa), within the framework of the First Interuniversity Conference of Teachers of the Centers of Higher Edu-cation of the Society of Jesus in Spain. The paper, unpublished in print media, presents the foundations and reasons that drove the Jesuits from the end of the 19th century to promote and direct university centers in Spain. From the begin-ning, efforts were made to achieve a university education with its own style and character. The Jesuits found this style in the pedagogical features of the Ratio Studiorum applied at the university level. The result of that application was the integral formation of the university student: a formation of faith, intelligence and heart, a harmony of the professional (utilitas), the human (humanitasand Iustitia) and the Christian (Fides).
