Abstract
The emotional dependence has been related as a chronic pattern of unsatisfied affective

analyze whether these two variables predict emotional dependence. The sample included
316 participants (165 women and 151 men) aged between 18 and 30 whom the following
instruments were applied: the Emotional Dependency Questionnaire (CDE), the Self deception
and Mixtification Inventory (IAM-40) and the Barratt Impulsivity Scale (BIS-
11). Statistical analysis was performed using the Spearman correlation coefficient, a
stepwise mul tiple linear regression analysis, and the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U
test. The results showed a significantly positive relationship between emotional
dependence with self-deception and impulsivity. Self-deception and impulsivity were
shown to predict emotional dependency in 20%. In addition, the study obtained data on
the existence of differences found in emotional dependence based on sex and having a
partner. Evidence is provided on the relationship between emotional dependency with
self-deception and impulsivity, and its influence on in ti mate partner violence. Finally, the
practica! implications for the field of health psychology are discussed.
