El Artivismo a través de la obra de Ai Wei Wei

Abstract

Este trabajo trata de acercar al lector al concepto del artivismo, arte y activismo, a través de una selección de la obra del artista contemporáneo chino Ai Weiwei. El artivismo no es un elemento homogéneo ni un género limitado al campo del arte y se caracteriza por surgir en un contexto de descontento y desconfianza hacia los procesos políticos tradicionales. Este concepto se entiende a través de algunas de las obras de Ai Weiwei, al que se define como artivista, por el contenido político y de denuncia social de sus creaciones. Se examinan la biografía del artista, una selección de sus obras y los principales periódicos digitales de España para reflexionar sobre la recepción del arte de Ai Weiwei, su relevancia y repercusión y su capacidad de movilizar a la sociedad, de despertar conciencias y de provocar hechos políticos reales.

This paper attempts to introduce the reader to the concept of artivism, art and activism, through a selection of the work of the contemporary Chinese artist Ai Weiwei. Artivism is neither a homogeneous element nor a genre limited to the field of art and is characterized by its emergence in a context of discontent and distrust towards traditional political processes. This concept is understood through a selection of the works of Ai Weiwei, who is defined as an artivist, due to the political content and social protest of his creations. The biography of the artist, a selection of his works and the main digital newspapers in Spain are examined to reflect on the reception of Ai Weiwei's art, its relevance and repercussion and its capacity to mobilize society, to awaken consciences and to trigger real political events.
