Sin embargo, no siempre el turismo es sostenible, y no siempre dicho desarrollo del sector turístico favorece la economía local de tal manera que pueda conseguir frenar el abandono. Se presentarán los datos turísticos y socioeconómicos del paisaje cultural de Las Médulas (León), y las debilidades y amenazas de dicho fenómeno. Tourism is usually considered an opportunity for the development of cultural landscapes, because the inflow of visitors creates new economic opportunities which can foster the sustainability of the local communities. This type of tourism, however, is not always sustainable, and the growth of the tourism sector does not always affect the local economy enough to arrest abandonment.
