This article provides a critical presentation and review of the influence of Positive Psychology on positive emotions as a whole and on happiness in particular.
It questions the trend of turning happiness and joy into consumer goods and reviews the dangers of adopting a regulatory model of happiness: the implicit pathologization of pain and suffering, the negative consequences of the «tyranny of positive thinking» and, thirdly, the danger of aggrandizing individualism and promoting an illusion of control that, paradoxically, comes to stand in the way of genuine happiness
