Following the liberalization of the electricity sector and the creation of national markets has become increasingly important to integrate these electricity markets in regional markets. Interconnection capacity between these markets is often limited and regularly occurring congestion. The two mechanisms for managing these congestions that have been more discussed in the literature are implicit and explicit auctions. In this thesis, in addition to the previous two, it is also analyzed a hybrid mechanism for congestion management with intermediate characteristics between implicit and explicit auctions. In the integration of markets, the design chosen to manage congestion affects agents’ strategic behavior. It is important to note that interconnections do not serve only to export energy but also, perhaps more significantly, competition (typically measured as elasticity). Another factor affecting decisively to market equilibrium is the way the agents anticipate the outcome of their actions. A common way to represent rationality of agents is by conjecture price responses. This thesis considers two types of rationality by generators: One in which generators fully anticipate the effect of their actions on the price of energy and another in which they only partially anticipated this effect by means of their conjectures, and therefore they require complete it by other means. One of the contributions of the work developed during this thesis is to consider that the conjecture price responses are based on the state of the network. As a result, the problem of representing the strategic behavior shows discontinuities when the network state changes. The treatment of this problem is another major contribution of this thesis. All the proposed models and algorithms have been validated in a case study of realistic size.es_ES
