Bioética para una sociedad envejecida

Abstract

Durante los días 8 y 9 de junio de 2021 se celebró en la Universidad Pontificia Comillas el XXXIV Seminario Interdisciplinar de Bioética. Este libro recoge la mayoría de las intervenciones que allí tuvieron lugar, así como algunos otros escritos que se presentaron en aquellas jornadas. La temática elegida fue Bioética para una sociedad envejecida, era una deuda con nuestros mayores. Se trataba de ir un poco más allá del COVID-19. El decantado que ha dejado la pandemia ha sido la situación social, política, económica, ética, etc. de los mayores de la sociedad. El virus Sars-cov-2 ha sido tan cruel, que no solo se ha llevado por delante la vida de miles de personas mayores; si no que además ha corrido el velo de la ignorancia que nos habíamos puesto voluntariamente en los ojos dejando ver la cruda realidad. Vivimos en una sociedad envejecida, pero en la que aparece la la gerontofofobia y la imagen social de la vejez como una carga, lo que se traduce en desigualdad e injustica contra los más mayores.

Este libro aborda las grandes cuestiones éticas como la justicia, el valor de la vida, la fraternidad y el cuidado desde la perspectiva de los mayores. En definitiva, el impacto que el envejecimiento de la población tiene sobre la bioética fundamental. Parte de los datos, como se le supone a toda buena reflexión bioética y llega hasta temas como el cuidador, la cuestión de la vejez y el género, el transhumanismo y el cuidado con robots.

On June 8 and 9, 2021, the XXXIV Interdisciplinary Seminar on Bioethics was held at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas. This book collects most of the interventions that took place there, as well as some other writings that were presented in those days. The theme chosen was Bioethics for an aging society, it was a debt to our elders. It was about going a little beyond COVID-19. The decanter left by the pandemic has been the social, political, economic, ethical situation, etc. of the elders of society. The Sars-cov-2 virus has been so cruel that it has not only taken the lives of thousands of older people; if not, it has also lifted the veil of ignorance that we had voluntarily put on our eyes, revealing the harsh reality. We live in an aging society, but in which gerontophobia and the social image of old age appear as a burden, which translates into inequality and injustice against the elderly.

This book addresses the great ethical issues such as justice, the value of life, brotherhood and care from the perspective of the elderly. In short, the impact that the aging of the population has on fundamental bioethics. Part of the data, as is supposed to all good bioethical reflection and reaches topics such as the caregiver, the issue of old age and gender, transhumanism and care with robots.
