Abstract
Throughout our lifetime, as citizens, we engage in approximately 15 general elections. When considering the time it takes to authenticate oneself, select a ballot paper, and cast the vote, it roughly takes 5 minutes. Therefore, a citizen's entire political involvement can be condensed into seventy-five minutes. To foster a truly representative and participatory democracy, various solutions have been suggested, including participatory budgeting, MICs, and non-secret ballots. This study examines citizen participation within Spain's declining democracy and puts forth recommendations to transform it into a genuinely participatory system, using as example the municipality of Campo de Criptana in Castilla-La Mancha.
