La reforma siscentista de la Casa de la Universitat de la Ciutat de Mallorca

Abstract

El edificio del actual Ayuntamiento de Palma es fruto de la reforma que durante la segunda mitad del siglo XVII reestructuró la entonces llamada Casa de la Universidad con el fin de dotarla de la representatividad necesaria. La presente investigación se basa en la búsqueda documental para aportar novedades sobre la forma como se desarrolló el proceso constructivo de la nueva fachada y la reconstrucción interior del inmueble. Dicho seguimiento incluye el hallazgo de evidencias sobre los recursos que se valoraron y utilizaron a la hora de ofrecer una imagen renovada de la institución municipal a los ciudadanos.

The building that serves as the current town hall of Palma de Mallorca is the resultof a reform carried out in the second half of the 17th century to restructure what wasthen known as the University House in order to lend it the representational characterit required. This investigation is based on documentary research to provide new infor-mation on the process to construct the new façade and reconstruct the interior of thebuilding, as well as evidence about the resources that were used to provide citizens arenewed image of this municipal institution
