Abstract
Asset pricing theory stems from one simple concept: price equals
expected discounted payoffs. From this starting point the way is the
elaborations of special cases. Cochrane in the preface of his book Assets
Pricing (2001) classified them from a generic perspective in absolute and
relative pricing.
In line with the first approach this thesis looks for the analysis of
macroeconomic risks asking to ascertain the significance of theses risks in
the stock market development.
These risks appear to work in two different aspects: first, affecting
the asset market pricing; second, dealing with the understanding and
evaluation of the economic outcomes by the agents with risk aversion, who
decide their acts and investments based on the current parameters of costs
and benefits.
Following this aim, we have in the first place, to analyze the
foundations that interconnect the stock market with the most meaningful
macroeconomics time series. Also we must complete a broad review of
different theories that have deeply studied these interconnections. Finally to
choose those econometric models that fits best with our initial propositions.
From this stage we have analyzed several models and systems,
among them the Autoregressive Vectors, VAR; the Vector Error Correction,
VEC that work in a close sense the interdependence of the variables and
use the cointegration with those, which in its original format are not non
stationary. Then continue to dig in a separate or in an integrated form its
level and cycle, stating short or medium term forecasts.
As alternative methods we have gone through the theory and
empirics of different models and projections of the Kalman filter and X12
ARIMA systems.
We can conclude that we have obtained models with adjusted
statistical tests and reliable predictive equations using as variables the
Madrid Total Stock Exchange Index, the Credit to Private Sector, the
Consumption of Durables and the Inflation.
Also the Madrid Total Stock Exchange Index has an undeniable
influence in the behaviour of the Industrial Production, the Velocity of
Money, Gross National Product and at the end on the economic
fluctuations.
