Educar en la naturaleza

Abstract

Si hubiera una palabra para definir la relación entre infancia y naturaleza, esa sería «injusticia». Mientras que un bebé de un país desarrollado genera un impacto ambiental trece veces mayor que el de los nacidos en países en vías de desarrollo, estos últimos sufren las consecuencias del deterioro ambiental que las sociedades acomodadas estamos causando. Y por supuesto a nadie escapa que en todo el mundo estamos padeciendo en vivo y en directo el resultado de años de desprecio y arrogancia hacia el medio ambiente. Cada cierto tiempo nos encontramos con catástrofes ambientales, climáticas, alimentarias o sanitarias. Y pese a que nos jugamos el pellejo, somos incapaces de actuar colectivamente a su favor. Los humanos somos notablemente torpes para gestionar estas situaciones, con una sorprendente parálisis a la hora de planificar y reaccionar para paliarlas. Aunque también es cierto que somos capaces de dar muestras de buenas prácticas y de acciones inteligentes. Pero ¿por dónde empezar? ¿Cómo reaccionar sosegadamente ante un desafío de tal magnitud? Katia Hueso sostiene que la única vía para cambiar el rumbo es la educación en la naturaleza, entendiéndola no solo como una parte del currículo, sino como algo transversal, que trascienda incluso las instituciones educativas y comience en cada hogar. Porque no hay mejor herencia para dejar a nuestros hijos que la de un mundo mejor.

And of course, it is clear to no one that all over the world we are suffering live and direct the result of years of disregard and arrogance towards the environment. From time to time we are faced with environmental, climatic, food or health catastrophes. And despite the fact that we are at stake, we are incapable of acting collectively in their favor. Humans are remarkably clumsy in managing these situations, with a surprising paralysis when it comes to planning and reacting to alleviate them. But it is also true that we are capable of good practice and intelligent action. But where do we start? How do we react calmly to a challenge of such magnitude? Katia Hueso argues that the only way to change course is education in nature, understanding it not only as a part of the curriculum, but as something transversal, that transcends even educational institutions and begins in every home. Because there is no better inheritance to leave our children than a better world.
