El regimiento Inmemorial del Rey

Abstract

El Regimiento de Infantería Inmemorial del Rey constituye, más que probablemente, el origen del ejército español. Según la tradición, es la Unidad más antigua de nuestra Infantería, como así fue reconocido oficialmente mediante Real Decreto bajo el reinado de Felipe V, hecho que fue ratificado por el Rey Carlos III, al otorgarle el título de “Inmemorial del Rey”. El presente trabajo tiene por finalidad realizar un análisis histórico-jurídico sobre el Regimiento de Infantería Inmemorial del Rey N.o 1 del Cuartel General del Ejército, como así se le denomina oficialmente en la actualidad, tras sufrir numerosos cambios a lo largo de los siglos. Con este objetivo, se analiza la evolución histórica del Regimiento, desde sus orígenes medievales, pasando por los diferentes reinados de las dinastías de los Habsburgo y los Borbones, la Primera y Segunda República, la dictadura del General Franco y la transición democrática, hasta la actualidad. Junto a los acontecimientos históricos de interés, se detalla la evolución del Regimiento, sus principales intervenciones militares y funciones, estructura, lugares de destino y mandos. Por último, en el capítulo de la Regulación del Regimiento, se realiza un recorrido cronológico por los distintos cambios regulatorios que han ido afectando al Regimiento desde sus inicios medievales hasta la época actual, de carácter genérico y específicos de la propia Unidad, incorporándose un apartado separado para tratar las controversias en torno al Derecho de antigüedad.

The King's Immemorial Infantry Regiment is, more than likely, the origin of the Spanish Army. According to tradition, it is the oldest unit of our Infantry, as it was officially recognised by Royal Decree during the reign of Philip V, a fact that was ratified by King Charles III, when he granted it the title of "Immemorial del Rey" (Immemorial of the King). The purpose of this work is to carry out a historical-legal analysis of the King's Immemorial Infantry Regiment No. 1 of the Army Headquarters, as it is officially known today, after undergoing numerous changes over the centuries. With this aim, the historical evolution of the Regiment is analysed, from its medieval origins, through the different reigns of the Habsburg and Bourbon dynasties, the First and Second Republic, the dictatorship of General Franco and the democratic transition, to the present day. Along with the historical events of interest, it details the evolution of the Regiment, its main military interventions and functions, structure, duty stations and commanders. Finally, in the chapter on the Regulation of the Regiment, a chronological overview is given of the different regulatory changes that have affected the Regiment from its medieval beginnings to the present day, both generic and specific to the Unit itself, with a separate section dealing with the controversies surrounding seniority law.
