Virgilio, Dante, Miguel Angel, Striggio, Monteverdi: lecturas de Caronte

Abstract

La figura del barquero ministro de Hades ha inspirado a poetas, pintores y músicos desde la antigüedad hasta nuestros días. Partiendo de la idea de “traducción intersemiótica” planteada en 1959 por el lingüista ruso Roman Jakobson (1959)1, en este capítulo se examinarán diversas traducciones que hunden sus raíces en el mito de Caronte: la que Dante Alighieri hizo de unos célebres versos de la Eneida virgiliana, la que Miguel Ángel hizo de la imagen dantesca en un fragmento de su Capilla Sixtina y la que Alessandro Striggio y Claudio Monteverdi ofrecieron en su Orfeo a partir del tercer canto de la Divina Comedia

The figure of the ferryman minister of Hades has inspired poets, painters and musicians from antiquity to the present day. Starting from the idea of "intersemiotic translation" put forward in 1959 by the Russian linguist Roman Jakobson (1959), this chapter will examine various translations that have their roots in the myth of Charon: Dante Alighieri's translation of some famous verses from the Virgilian Aeneid, Michelangelo's translation of the Dantesque image in a fragment of his Sistine Chapel, and Alessandro Striggio and Claudio Monteverdi's translation of the third canto of the Divine Comedy in their Orfeo.
